December wheat finished 6 3/4 cents higher overnight. The dollar was mixed to slightly higher.
Wheat mostly followed corn and soybeans yesterday although it did not stage as dramatic a recovery as corn during midday and wheat lost substantial ground to corn on the day. Prices were higher again overnight in wheat with the market losing marginally to corn in the overnight session in the December contracts. The tender calendar remains busy and today's Export Sales Report is expected to show totals near last week's strong levels. Tunisia bought 84,000 tonnes of wheat with origins said to be from the Black Sea. Private forecasters in Australia are now bumping their crop estimates higher due to recent beneficial rains there. Russia's Agriculture Ministry said that they could produce 85 million tonnes of grain and export 12.7 million tonnes. This is in line with trade expectations. Basis levels remain very weak for soft red wheat.
Spring wheat areas are expected to see rain in eastern growing areas today with scattered rains in the far west. The western rains are not enough to alleviate dry conditions there. The western spring wheat belt should see better rains and more widespread coverage next Tuesday and Wednesday. The northern Plains are expected to see rains today. Clear weather is expected in most hard and soft red wheat areas over the next several days. Algeria is tendering for 50,000 tonnes of wheat. Syria has reissued a tender for 120,000 tonnes of soft wheat, the first major buying tender in 15 years by that country. Oman is in for 120,000 tonnes at the end of July. Pakistan is tendering for 250,000 tonnes of wheat to boost buffer stocks.
