July Soybeans finished up 3 at 1312, 9 off the high and 14 1/2 up from the low. November Soybeans closed up 1/4 at 1245 3/4. This was 15 up from the low and 6 off the high.
July Soymeal closed up 1.3 at 335.5. This was 5.9 up from the low and 1.0 off the high.
July Soybean Oil finished up 0.34 at 59.5, 0.35 off the high and 1.05 up from the low.
Trade in soybeans was mixed today despite sharply higher corn and wheat markets. Prices moved lower late in the session in line with falling wheat prices, but firmed into the close to finish slightly higher and near the middle of the day's ranges. Oil gained substantially on meal today, and July soybeans finished with a small gain on the November contract. Renewed protests in Argentina by thousands of farmers today are intended to prevent the flow of commodities to processors and ports according to farm leaders. However, farmers say that they do not intend to block roads as they did in March. Protests are scheduled to last through May 15th. The Brazilian version of the USDA - Conab - lowered its estimate of this year's soybean crop from 60 million tonnes to 59.5 million tonnes today. Trade was also halted today at Argentina's main grain market in Rosario. This week's export sales for soybeans came in at 41,000 tonnes for old crop and 239,600 tonnes for new crop. Sales of only 21,600 are needed each week to reach the old crop export projection. Total sales to date stand at 98.7% of the projection versus a 5-year average of 94.3%. Net meal sales were 122,200 tonnes for old crop and 12,100 tonnes for new crop. Sales of 91,500 tonnes are needed each week to reach the old crop projections. Total sales to date stand at 75.6% of the projection compared to a 5-year average of 73.5%. Net oil sales were 11,900 tonnes for old crop and zero for new crop. Sales of 12,700 tonnes are needed each week to reach the export projection. Total sales to date stand at 77.8% of the projected total compared to a 5-year average of 55.3%. Venezuela was the biggest buyer in meal and oil and Germany was the biggest buyer in soybeans. Soybean basis levels at the Gulf were steady today.
